DIY Infrasound Recorder – Parts List
🎤 1. Microphone / Pressure Sensor
(the heart of the system — must detect < 20 Hz)
Option A: Electret mic capsule + large chamber
1× High-sensitivity electret microphone capsule
→ Panasonic WM-61A or Primo EM258
1× Custom air-volume chamber (PVC or aluminum, 100–200 cc)
A larger sealed chamber boosts low-frequency sensitivity.
Option B: Barometric or MEMS pressure sensor (for true infrasound)
Bosch BME280 or BMP390 (0–20 Hz range)
SparkFun Atmospheric Sensor Breakout or Adafruit Qwiic BME688 board
These detect sub-5 Hz oscillations in air pressure.
2. Amplifier & Filter Stage
1× Low-noise op-amp (LM358 or TL072)
1× Resistor–capacitor network tuned for 0.1 Hz–30 Hz bandwidth
Optional: active 2nd-order low-pass filter to cut > 40 Hz noise
Breadboard or small PCB for assembly
💾 3. Recorder / Data Logger
Option A – Microcontroller logger
Arduino Nano or Raspberry Pi Pico + micro-SD card module
Records at 200–1 000 samples per second (enough for infrasound)
Option B – Analog recorder
High-capacity digital audio recorder capable of 48 kHz with extended bass response
(Zoom H1n mod, Tascam DR-05, or even AudioMoth if modified with low-cut disabled)
